Happy Skye in the Mr. Whippy van with a triple treat ;-) This was taken at the Tattoo in Paeroa 2010. Skye was in the van for probably 5 minutes and watched heaps of customers getting served. Mr. Whippy was so kind to give her free fanta as well ;-)
http://www.mrwhippy.co.nz/about : Mr. Whippy was originally established in the UK in 1962 and came to New Zealand in 1964 ... and has been loved by Kiwis ever since!!

Sidecar 77
Sidecar coming down the hill at our office in princes street.
This was taken at Paeroa battle of the streets 2010
In contrast to last year, the races had a a lot of accidents and was called of early because the ambulance couldn't handle it. One man died, who was airlifted to hospital. In the meantime four others were injured and were road transported to hospital.
This was the first death in the 19-year history of the Battle of the Streets.

Farmers walk Reuben De Jong
Reuben De Jong at the Paeroa Highland games and Tattoo 2010. He weights 130+ kg's, six foot ten, official New Zealand strongman & K1 boxer..
.
He is performing the farmers walk, shot at the 100m meter mark. He is trying to break his record of 250+ meters, but only made it to about 216 meters.
Each handle is 110 pounds, so 220 pounds or 100kg together. (I am not 100% about weight).

Maori couple on stage
The lady is a Kuia, an elder lady with special authorities. She was so kind to moderate the entire waitangi day. At the end of the show she performed together with her husband. I think he is a Matua, a male elder.

Morning view
View out of my window this morning. The English lady collecting her dog, after it run across the road to shit on the neighbours front lawn, like every morning. This time the dog didn't come back and she had to collect it and was railing at it in the high pitch lady pom voice ;-).
The picture is about as blurry as my vision was, 1 minute after leaving bed ;-) [The blur was not on purpose]

Lifting the hangi in the car
This is the first of two hangis on the way to the celebration. The big basket is filled with food trays. It was coverd in dirt, sitting on amber and big steel pieces..
.
The hangi was part of the great Waitangi day celebration in Paeroa with live music, organised by Mel Budge..
.
The waitangi day, is the day the English and Maori signed the Treaty of Waitangi on the 6th of February 1840. The Treaty changed the war of weapons into a war of lawyers. Which is good, so we can have hangis and beer together.

.
This is an exposure blend shot at ISO80 f/9.0, 1/200s for the base, 1/50s for the dark bits, 1/500s for the sky. For the sky I had to play with the value and blue curve.

Primrose hill is the hill with the tree, a little bit to to right of the tree is the war memorial, very hard to see in this shot..
This is looking over Paeroa from a road close to the cemetery, just outside Paeroa.
